Qatar Petroleum chooses ABB Industrial IT solutions for PS4 offshore field

Doha, Qatar, August 28, 2002 – ABB, the global power and automation technology group, will deliver an Operate IT control system for Qatar Petroleum’s PS4 offshore field, located at Northfield Alpha.
The order comprises delivery of an Operate IT control system to upgrade the existing operating system. In addition

to supplying the Operate IT suite for this new project, ABB will be working with Qatar to jointly evolve the current
operator platform on the existing Northfield Alpha offshore field to the same Industrial IT unique Human System
Interface technology.

This is the second time in two months that Qatar Petroleum has chosen ABB to deliver Industrial IT leading edge technology. Over the past ten years Qatar Petroleum and ABB have formed a special partnership based on ABB’s successful supply of process automation and power technology products, solutions and services.

"We believe that ABB's Industrial IT platform will help us enhance our world class operational performance even more
by allowing us to develop true Asset Optimization strategies enabled by ABB's Aspect Objects strategy,” said a Qatar Petroleum spokesman. “It is encouraging to note Qatar Petroleum’s confidence in ABB’s Industrial IT suite by awarding
two contracts – NGL 3 earlier in June this year and now the PS 4,” said Barun Chakravarty, ABB's Major Account Manager for Qatar Petroleum. “The use of the Operate IT platform is a solid foundation which will open a new horizon for Qatar to introduce ABB’s unmatched Fieldbus technology – a true enabling technology for Asset Optimization.”
